There are many reasons why you need to get a Lasting Power of Attorney. Here are the main ones…
Choose someone you trust to make decisions when you cannot.
Appointing a Last Power of Attorney (LPA) allows you to choose someone you trust to make important decisions on your behalf, in the event that you are unable to do so. For example, illness, injury or mental incapacity.
Nominating someone to access your finances when you are unable to.
Many assume that their partner can automatically make financial and health decisions on their behalf… but actually, this isn’t true. If you lost mental capacity, your partner might struggle to access the finances (including joint accounts), pay the bills, update the mortgage or even be able to claim on a critical illness or income protection policy on your behalf.
Putting your overall wellbeing first.
When you appoint a LPA, they can manage your finances if you are unable to do so. They can also make decisions about your health, treatment and ongoing care.
Own a business?
If you’re a business owner, you may want to consider a Business LPA as this will allow people to make business decisions if you are unable to do so.
You deserve peace of mind and reassurance.
Having an LPA in place gives you reassurance that your affairs will be managed according to your wishes and helps to avoid lengthy and costly Court of Protection procedures.
A Lasting Power of Attorney is easy to make and register, and everyone should think about having this in place.
